What will it take for people to learn how to drive properly? I mean ok I admit Im not the worlds greatest driver, and Ive had my share of speeding fines and crashes....some which werent my fault....and from each one I have learnt lessons - for example my last speeding fine or was it my second to last?? For me to control the speed I do in my car and its very hard to control yourself when you do have a "racing" car to keep the speed low in it - but for me it took being pulled over by an under cover cop and getting a fine, though I was let off with some of my offences I did walk away (drive actaully) knowing I had to be more careful, and I am now more wary of who is on the road....especially unmarked Holdens and Vans parked on the side of the road (that one came about having got a camera fine).
And while Im on the admiting truthfully about my driving, I will say I have gotten road rage in some places, such as when people try to cut me off and push me into on coming traffic and chasing me down the motorway at a 120km, or when people dont move when the light is green or give way at the round about and drive in front of you when your coming through....or who risk their lives at intersections...or those who like to stop and stare at crashes on the opposite side of the road holding up traffic or even more causing another crash - serious take the image in and learn from it and carry on and focus on where your going...Or when people run through red lights particularly at night when their is no traffic on the roads...
I ask myself why are we in such a big hurry to get to places? Why do we risk our lives and those around us because of poor judgement? What does it take for people to learn? Does not losing someone to an accident involving drugs and alcohol teach them a lesson not to drive drunk? Does becoming paralyzed after surviving a crash in speed crash not teach them that boy racing and speeding is not the answer?? Does losing their licence not tell them hey come on dont get behind the wheel...?? Does falling asleep at the wheel tell you that you shouldnt be there but in bed??
Everyday I come online or I turn the radio or TV on and hear about fatal car crashes and every weekend now they are getting worse and more frequent. I fear everytime I hear of crashes near where people I know well and love dearly live, even worse when I dont hear from these people much...
The road toll in NZ this year is higher than it was last year and we arent even half way through the year yet - 125 was what I read last night that is was at and this weekends toll was at 6 and the weekend hasnt even ended yet...
It seems that with all the TV ads on and ads on the radio just isnt getting the message through....what else is there to do to educate people given the amount of cars increasing on roads these days??
I know for one that there is one Ad that I think of all the time when Im driving and it is this ad here - this is only one take of the Ad, there is another where its a near miss and a cop goes after a car...but I ALWAYS think of this guy standing there when someone pulls out in front of me from an intersection - and I always take my time when coming out of places, even if it means that someone gets impatient and toots their horn at me or over takes me and pushes in where they shouldnt to get through...or I have people in the car going GO BRONWYN HURRY UP AND GO YOU COULD HAVE GONE THEN!!!
My mesage is - people please drive carefully!! And if in doubt dont get behind the wheel.....there are other ways to get from A to B with out risking the lives of others and yourself! Even if it means having to pay someone to take you or not going at all...
