They say you will always remember what you were doing on the day of Sept 11th. I do, I was in bed sleeping, and my parents woke me up to watch the news, it was very early in the morning, my father would be up early like 6am or so to get read for work, and he would always wake us up me in particular with with hands covered in after shave...
But I remember the day, I was in Year 10 (4th form, for those who do grades I guess about 10th grade) at McAuley Girls High Schools - after watching it on the news I caught my school bus to school - 055 Stagecoach that went from Papakura to Otahuhu haha...and I remember one of my best friends I had in high school Rebecca going haha the trade centres blew up...(now now before you go off at me I was a young nieve teenager back then and I dont see it so funny now...but this is just what i remember from this day)....I remember us girls all being crammed into a classroom and Mr Lord playing a TV with the news coverage of it that was either taped or maybe it was live and we spent most of the school day watching the TV I thought it rather boring...it pissed me off as I wanted to go to my classes....why did we have to watch the coverage for?? We didnt for anything else...
I think it was a year or so later when I made friends with Isla (Cookie) in New York....I remember her telling me about how she was in the building next door and how she felt watching it all unfolding infront of her eyes....I also remember my sister's penpal's sister who was involved in an accident around the time of it....
Here we are 7 years later....and I must admit I dont actually think much of it anymore its one of those things that has been and gone and Ive forgotten about it as the years ago by...
But one thing will always remain the same...my admiration and respect and passion towards the Fire Fighters of not only NZ but of the world...
And so this blog today is in memory of those men and woman who put there lives on the line to do what they do best to help others...
