According to the Hunterville Huntaway Festival brochure (Hunterville is a village/settlement/area in NZ) - The Huntaway was developed after Shepherds were intrigued by how a sheep dogs in NZ started using their voice to drive sheep. Using slective breeding of barking-heading dogs and many other breeds crossed to gain the dsired characteristics of a Huntaway. These involving the Labrador, Fox Hound, Border Collie and German Sheperd to name just a few.
Thus resulting in the New Zealand Huntaway, whichu rges sheep to move with its voice along......they say (and every other man and dog pune not intended tell me) that they are highly intelligent as well as being very much a "one man dog." Though breed with stamina that keeps on going allllllll day long.
Haha Ive learnt I have a highly energetic dog, and really should do things with Abby ie taking her walks more often and playing with her to tier her out....other wise she will get bored...hence why the backyard is like WW3 has hit it..they arent really a breed that should be kept in the suburbs...and they arent really a "pet" breed they are more so for working.....
Abby is a Huntaway crossed with a Border Collie - Im not sure who out of her parents were which...

Thanks for all that information I did not think you were talking about your dog on the garden reply! I understand I have a german shepherd mix and she was full of life when she was younger even going as far to dig under the fence to let the puppy next door to visit her!
